blog notes 114-119

how to shoot a formal portrait
1. background near a wall. leave 10 to 20 ft of clear space in front of the background plus room to the sides
2.place light 45 degrees to the right of the subject
3.set camera directly in front of the subject(6to10ft) depending on the lens used.
-It is a good idea to shoot with a wide open aperture to make the background out of focus. makes background less distracting
-for indoor lighting use one light approx at a 45 degree angle on one side or other of the subject
-for outdoors, direct sunlight isn't the best lighting. try shooting in the shade like the shadow of a building or tree but avoid deep shade.
-candid portraits capture a person going about everyday life and activities. take without subject seeing you.
-for candid shots choose a faster shutter speed because you might take action shots. if you use a flash get close to your subject
