            Formal ---- http://www.prophotoshow.net/blog/2009/04/01/formal-portrait-lighting-on-a-budget/
there are three different types of portraits; environmental, candid, and formal. each of these are portraits but are all very different. when you take portrait pictures you have to think artistically. value is important to the outcome to your portrait. it can affect the emotion and do all sorts of other things to enhance your photo. shape is also important in portraits. Making the subject the dominant figure in the photo will bring more importance/significance on the subject. when taking pictures of groups, try to arrange them in a geometric shape. the geometric shape will make the photo feel more balanced and solid.
